*Planting Day

Moon in Capricorn, waning:: This is a Earth sign. It is a good time to sow Root plants like Beetroot, Carrots, Chives, Jerusalem Artichokes, Kohl Rabi, Onions, Radish, Spring Onions, Swedes, Turnips, but it would not be a good time to sow Flower plants like Angelica, Borage, Calabrese, Caraway, Cauliflowers, Wormwood (Source)

*Note: as the moon is waning, this is also an excellent time for pruning and weeding gardens – both physically and spiritually.

Today’s Fairy Oracle: Letting Go, Inverted
Today’s Tarot Card: Five of Swords, Inverted

Governed by Jupiter – expansion, money, prosperity, generosity

green, turquoise, white, purple, crimson

The Moon:
3rd Quarter Waning in Capricorn

Waning Moon: Waning, from Full Moon to New Moon, is a time for study, meditation, and magical work designed to banish harmful energies.

Moon in Capricorn: Develops strong structure. Focus on traditions, responsibilities, and obligations. A good time to set boundaries and rules.

The Sun:
Gemini, The Twins

Here’s what I’ve learned about Gemini Energy thus far:

June 13

June 12

June 10

June 9

June 8

June 7

*Note to Self: What I’d actually like to do is to re-read all of these sources, consult a few more, then write my own understanding of Gemini influences.  It’s one thing to scout, copy, and paste – but it’s a new way of understanding to chew it up, swallow it down, and regurgitate it in my own way.  I’d like to do this with each month’s signs, actually, and add a new page to The Road Home for Zodiac.  Of course, whether or not I’ll have the time, energy, or creative flow to accomplish this is another thing entirely… but the idea is here and I’ve written it down.

Other Planetary Influences:
Mercury Direct @ 9:31 a.m. US Central

Mercury’s direct station is usually the most difficult day of the whole retrograde, and this day may be especially difficult with the Sun and Venus at a standoff with the Moon and Pluto. Not only will Mercury bring miscommunications, Internet problems, and travel problems around that day, there will also be lots jealousy and fear in our minds. Some could be rather passionate around this time, and sex could be a driving force. (source)

The influences of Mercury Direct are also dependent on where Mercury is in your chart. This source offers information on finding Mercury’s location in your natal chart, and understanding how it influences you at this time. Here’s what mine said:

7/31 to 8/29 3 Arms, Communications, & Letters

Third House

The missing letter somehow arrives. The forgotten phone call is made. A misplaced (and crucial) file is found. Something lost is found here, and that lost something deals with communications, transportation, or accounting. You’ll be glad to get the piece of the cover, unless you are the one that intentionally hid it. -)

Today’s Horoscope for Leo:

In everything you do today, your enthusiasm will bubble up and make everyone smile.

Take in as much information as you can today, because your decision-making process is wholly dependent on what you know. You may want to defer action until as late in the day as possible.

Daily Extended
In everything you do today, your enthusiasm will bubble up and pour all over everyone who is around you. You will be a ‘happiness’ contagion! Spreading smiles is something you’ll do without any extra effort, and it will create a chain reaction of cheerfulness that will make people want to listen to you. This is a wonderful day for a party or any other type of group situation where good vibes are helpful. You can be the center of all the fun — if you let yourself.

Daily Flirt:
You have to act like a parent today, listening to everyone tell their sides of the story before making up your mind. It could get a little tedious after a while, but you know it’s the right thing to do.

Daily Couples:
What you see as sharing your excitement over your relationship, your friends might view as bragging. Keep in mind that while they’re happy for you, they don’t want to hear all the details!

Daily Singles:
Your resourcefulness helps put your back on track when it comes to looking for the ideal dating situation. Whether you’re on the prowl at the gym or looking at more than melons n the produce isle, you’re ready for love.

Career & Finance
All the potential in the world won’t help you if you can’t stay focused. Listen to your flittering and flickering thoughts, then concentrate.

*Neither planting or harvest day

Today’s Fairy: Higher Consciousness
Today’s Tarot: Five of Swords

Governed by Mercury – study, travel, divination, wisdom

yellow, brown, white, topaz

The Moon:
2nd Quarter waxing in Sagittarius, Full Moon @ 12:30 p.m. U.S. Central, void-of-course @ 4:37 p.m., moon enters Capricorn @ 4:51 p.m. US Central

Waxing Moon: From New Moon to Full Moon is the ideal time to do magic to draw things to you.

Moon in Sagittarius: Encourages confidence and flights of imagination. This is an adventurous, philosophical, and athletic Moon sign. Favors expansion and growth.

June’s Full Moon is called the Mead Moon, also known as Moon of Horses, Lover’s Moon, Strong Sun Moon, Honey Moon, Aerra Litha (Before Lithia), Brachmanoth (Break Month), Strawberry Moon, Rose Moon, Moon of Making Fat.

June’s Power Flow: full but restful energy; protect, strengthen, and prevent. A time of Light; Earth tides are turning. Decision-making, taking responsibility for present happenings. Work on personal inconsistencies. Strengthen and reward yourself for your positive traits. (Source for June’s Moon info: Moon Magick by D.J. Conway)

Another source:

Full Moon: The Moon’s most powerful phase, when we see her entire illuminated face. This a a time of fulfillment, activity, increased psychic ability, for perfecting ideas, “getting your act together,” celebrations, or renewing commitments to people or projects. The best time for spells of any kind.

June: The Moon of the month of Gemini, this period honors twins and the sacred marriage of the god and goddess, bringing two into one. (source: Moon Spells by Diane Ahlquist)

Void-of-course: Just before the Moon enters a new sign, it will make one final aspect (angular relationship) to another planet. Between that last aspect and the entrance of the Moon into the next sign it is said to be void-of-course. Activities begin when the Moon is void-of-course rarely come to fruition, or they turn out very differently than planned.

Moon in Capricorn: Develops strong structure. Focus on traditions, responsibilities, and obligations. A good time to set boundaries and rules.

The Sun:
The Twins
(see previous Daily Dose posts for more information on Gemini Energy)
(The Sun enters Cancer in two days, on Friday, June 20)

Other Planetary Shifts:
Venus entered Cancer @ 3:48 a.m. U.S. Central

Venus in Cancer:

Venus in Cancer indicates a very sensitive, warm-hearted, protective, affectionate and deeply emotional romantic nature. For general well-being and emotional security you require a safe home and a loving family. In romance, your super-sensitive feelings are vulnerable to the least slight – you are very fragile in this area, thus easily hurt. Your lack of romantic self-confidence requires that your partner demonstrates constant affection and devotion. Your moodiness, sentimentality and tendency to sulk could present some problems, but on the whole, you are the ideal marriage partner in that you cherish your home and family, seeking a stable and affectionate domestic life. (source)

Summary: Well, with the moon waxing to full in the power flows of June and Gemini, and with Venus shifting into Cancer it sounds like a day for honoring, celebrating, and re-enforcing love and relationships. Mercury’s influence along with Capricorn Lunar energy indicates this would be a great day for communication within relationships, including defining boundaries. I also have to include, for my own self, the influences of the day’s divinitory cards, so when celebrating and/or discussing love and relationships, I should do so from a higher consciousness, careful to keep morals in tact and not fall victim to “all about me” thinking.

Today’s Horoscope for Leo:

There is no reason for you to tolerate someone’s arrogance. Stand up for yourself.

You are feeling generous today — much more so than usual and so much so that it may draw attention (and praise) from an unexpected source. Keep it up and you’ll develop a great reputation!

Daily Extended
There is no reason for you to tolerate someone whose arrogance verges on rudeness today, no matter who they are. So if you feel you’re being taken advantage of or talked down to, do not hesitate to stand up for yourself and set this person right! Compromising your dignity is never acceptable. And if you are dealing with someone who you think might be unreasonable or even dangerous, then defend yourself by walking away. Do not dignify a bully by dealing with a bully.

Daily Flirt:
Your giant heart sometimes gets you in trouble, but today it’s nothing but rainbows and puppy dogs for you and your people! They adore your great energy, and you can’t help but help them out.

Daily Couples:
You’re generally happy, but you’re still feeling the urge to make some changes. If you’ve fallen into a routine with your sweetie, try mixing things up a bit. It doesn’t take much to make things seem new and interesting again.

Daily Singles:
Tired of waiting for Cupid to notice you? Get focused on the task at hand and grab your sexiest outfit for a night on the town with friends. You never know who’s eye you’ll catch.

Career & Finance:
Just like being in love magnifies someone’s good qualities, so disliking someone magnifies their bad qualities. Be professional, and don’t be bothered by such pettiness.

I took a few minutes this afternoon to glance back over June’s Tarot reading to see how the projections are manifesting, which things I’ve encountered to date, and which things may still be on the horizon.  The Magician was in June’s forecast, and that showed up for me yesterday – along with several other confirmations of magick being in the air for me right now.  I can see how that King of Swords is coming in to play, but I believe that’s a present moment scenerio and I think it’s still playing itself out in ways I can’t yet fully identify.  However, this struck me… hard:

Position 7: Near Future
Card: Nine of Swords

Emphasize self sufficiency. The less dependent you are, the less vulnerable you are.

With the Nine of Swords in this position, this may not be the time to go out on a limb. Reduce your risks and exposure to the negative effects of other people’s choices. This is not to say you should cut all ties. Rather, do what you can to minimize repercussions in your life if someone chooses to go in a direction or undertake an action you are not comfortable with.

Reflecting on the coffee thoughts I’ve written this week, coupled with those private thoughts I’ve not shared in a public forum, this has become crystal clear to me and is smack on target.

I can also see the influences of the Heirophant, particularly in relation to the messages of magick. I’ve been doing a whole lot of Tarot readings. What happens in those Tarot Readings? I’m making the invisible… visible.

The Hierophant in this position points to someone who is recognized and respected for the qualities that once made them seem strange to others. People like this see into the invisible spaces, communicate with animals, plants or the elements, and generally live in the world but are not bound to it. Although an extra degree of sensitivity to your experience of life has at times seemed a setback, the Hierophant is now in a position to make it pay.

This is a specialist, a person with a gift. With self discipline, you can turn your unique point of view into a path of service. The Heirophant teaches practical applications from the book of Natural Law. He reveals the secrets hidden in everyday matter, the cycles of moons and tides, the links between the body and the cosmos.

Yup. *nods* – crystal clear and being put into action. This is my current challenge, which can also be described as a mission, goal, assignment, job, task. I do believe I’m doing well.

I can also see clearly now how that Death card is manifesting, as all other magickal signs, symbols, synchronicity, animal messages, and mystical guidance has said quite pointedly that the me of my past is in the process of dying and the me of the future is in the process of being born. This is a total time of transformation for me – and what’s really cool about that is that I’m totally aware of it, completely conscious, and doing my very best to navigate the changes. I’m looking forward to being who I always knew I’d become.

Much of the reading is still unfolding… it’s only the 10th, so I’m only about 1/3 of the way through the current energy flow, but I wanted to take a few minutes to see how it’s all stacking up. I’m pleased.

Life is good.

I’m feeling much better mentally today than I have over the past few days. Taking the advice of the Daily Dose and detaching from certain emotional conditions is serving me well. I was energized by yesterday’s cards… the Magician and the Problems Resolved. After work, I went over to T’s for a while. He knows I like to draw a card from his Medicine Wheel Animal Oracle deck and had the deck sitting on the coffee table for me when I walked in. Smiling, I shuffled, cut the deck, stacked the cards, flipped the top card, then laughed out loud. Raven… symbol of magick! Messenger of the Universe.

I dreamed I was going to Canada.

Work was a drain yesterday, and non-productive, financially speaking. Eight hours of serving produced a whoppin’ $37. People just aren’t tipping the way they used to. I understand it, to a degree, because gas prices and cost of living have skyrocketed out of control… but I don’t know if the general public knows, or cares, that our tips are our living. We only make $2.28 per hour… without our tips, we don’t survive. People… treat your servers well!

There’s a Crow cawing. Right now, as I type this, it’s on the back hill… cawing, cawing, cawing away. Crow is related to Raven, and is one of my animal totems. Let’s reflect since it’s clearly calling for my attention:

This is from the Medicine Wheel Animal Oracles from which I drew cards indicating my animal totems:

Below: The Below animal teaches you about the inner Earth, and how to stay grounded and on path.

Crow (Law): There is a medicine story that tells of Crow’s fascination with her own shadow. She kept looking at it, scratching it, pecking at it, until her shadow woke up and became alive. Then Crow’s shadow ate her. Crow is Dead Crow now.

Dead Crow is the Left-Handed Guardian. If you look deeply into Crow’s eye, you will have found the gateway to the supernatural. Crow knows the unknowable mysteries of creation and is the keeper of all sacred law.

Since Crow is the keeper of sacred law, Crow can bend the laws of the physical universe and “shape shift.” This ability is rare and unique. Few adepts exist in today’s world, and fewer still have mastered Crow’s art of shape shifting. This art includes doubling, or being in two places at once time consciously; taking on another physical form, and becoming the “fly on the wall” to observe what is happening far away.

The Europeans that came to Turtle Island were named the “boat people” by Slow Turtle. Even with the knowledge of alchemy possessed by certain boat people, none had ever seen the powerful shape shifting of shamans who utilized Crow medicine. Many boat people were frightened by what appeared to be animals coming into their camps or dwellings to discern their medicine. Crow medicine people are masters of illusion.

All sacred texts are under the protection of Crow. Creator’s Book of Laws or Book of Seals is bound in Crow feathers. Crow feathers tell of spirit made flesh. Crow is also the protector of the “ogallah” or ancient records.

The Sacred Law Belts, or Wampum Belts, beaded by native women long before the boat people or Europeans came to this continent, contain knowledge of the Great Sprit’s laws, and are kept in the Black Lodges, the lodges of women. The law which states that “all things are born of women” is signified by Crow.

Children are taught to behave according tothe rules of a particular culture. Most orthodox religious systems create a mandate concerning acceptable behavior within the context of worldly affairs. Do this and so, and you will go to heaven. Do thus and so, and you will go to hell. Different formulas for salvation are demanded by each “true faith.”

Human law is not the same as Sacred Law. More so than any other medicine, Crow sees that the physical world and even the spiritual world, as humanity interprets them, are an illusion. There are billions of worlds. There are an infinitude of creatures. Great Sprit is within all. If an individual obeys Crow’s perfect laws as given by the Creator, then at death he or she dies a Good Medicine death — going on to the next incarnation with a clear memory of his or her past.

Crow is an omen of change. Crow lives in the void and has no sense of time. The Ancient Chiefs tell us that Crow sees simultaneously the three fates – past, present, and future. Crow merges light and darkness, seeing both inner and outer reality.

If Crow medicine appears in your card spread, you must pause and reflect on how you see the laws of the Great Spirit in relation to the laws of humanity. Crow medicine signifies a firsthand knowledge of a higher order of right and wrong than indicated by the laws created in human culture. With Crow medicine, you speak in a powerful voice when addressing issues that for you seem out of harmony, out of balance, out of whack, or unjust.

Remember that Crow looks at the world with first one eye, then the other – cross-eyed. In the Mayan culture, cross-eyeds had the privilege and duty of looking into the future. You must put aside your fear of being a voice in the wilderness and “caw” the shots as you see them.

As you learn to allow your personal integrity to be your guide, your sense of feeling alone will vanish. Your personal will can then emerge so that you will stand in your truth. The prime path of true Crow people says to be mindful of your opinions and actions. Be willing to walk your talk, speak your truth, know your life’s mission, and balance past, present, and future in the now. Shape shift that old reality and become your future self. Allow the bending of physical laws to aid in creating the shape-shifted world of peace.

– And the moment I sought out that information inspired by the crow’s demanding caw this morning, the caw was silenced. In no uncertain terms, that bird just spoke to me.

For good measure, I’m also going to record, in part, what’s in my Animal Magick book (by D.J. Conway) about Crow Magick and messages:

Magickal Attributes: Thief, trickery, boldness, skill, cunning, single-mindedness; a bringer of knowledge. Prophecy. Learn from the past but don’t hold onto it. Swiftness, eloquence. Shape-shifting. Letting go of past hurts. Learning to mentally shape-shift. Divination.

Prince of thieves, cunning and swift,
Your black wings glide among the trees.
Your harsh laughter breaks the silence
As you perform your stealthy magick.
I would learn your cunning and swift magickal ways.

I love it when the Animals speak to me in such a clear, undeniable fashion… and I will hold these messages with me throughout the day. I understand them perfectly.

I am content within my own skin today. Magick is in the air.

T wants me to do another reading for him, and I think I’ll be much more attuned to it this time ’round since I’ve learned to detach. I’ve never had a problem reading anyone before, but the first time I tried to read his cards, I got caught up in my own reflections, desires, and emotions. Clearly, I was appearing in his reading and because of that, I had trouble interpreting for him what I was seeing. Now that I’m learning to enjoy what there is to enjoy without the emotional pressures of what might or might not someday be, I think it’ll be a much easier path for me to walk, particularly in performing a reading for him. So, I’ll take my cards to work with me and stop by his place on my way home.

I’m excited over the move… should have word back from the lender tomorrow. He’d said the first part of the week, specifically before Thursday, but intuition says it’ll be tomorrow when Mercury rules the day.

I’m tired, but I feel wonderful. I’m in a financial vice, but I refuse to stress over it at the moment. Stressing isn’t going to pay the power bill, it’ll only make me miserable.

Lessons, messages, synchronicity (*winks*), and all… LIFE IS GOOD!

Time for a Daily Dose.

*Planting Day

Use this literally, as in planting actual seeds in the garden.

Remember, you can use lunar influences for better gardening results. For example, the moon is currently in Virgo:

Moon in Virgo: This is a Earth sign. It is a good time to sow Root plants like Beetroot, Carrots, Chives, Jerusalem Artichokes, Kohl Rabi, Onions, Radish, Spring Onions, Swedes, Turnips, but it would not be a good time to sow Flower plants like Angelica, Borage, Calabrese, Caraway, Cauliflowers, Wormwood.” (Source)

Or, use this energy figuratively by planting seeds in your life.  Determine what it is you’d like to “grow”, whether new job, new love, new skills, and then plant and nurture those seeds so you can harvest the benefits later.

Today’s Fairy Oracle: Problem Resolved
Today’s Tarot Card: The Magician

Governed by the Moon- Peace, healing, caring, psychic awareness

Gray, lavender, white, silver, ivory

The Moon:
1st Quarter waxing in Virgo

Waxing Moon: Waxing, from New Moon to Full Moon, is the ideal time to do magic to draw things to you.

Moon in Virgo: Favors accomplishment of details and commands from higher up. Focus on health, hygiene, and daily schedules.

The Sun:
Gemini, “The Twins”
May 22 – June 21

The sign of Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury. Physically it is related to the hands and lungs. It is said to have a masculine nature, and is therefore more outwardly oriented in its energy expression. It is an Air sign, and this means that it is connected with communication, mental contact and social principles. It is also a Mutable sign which enhances flexibility and adaptability. Planets placed in this sign will often reflect on personal intelligence, bringing a tremendous curiosity and a need to exchange ideas with other people in a social environment.

Negative manifestations of Gemini influences are a flightiness and unreliability, and a tendency to get involved with too many things at any one time. There is a love of ideas, but no inner need to put them into practice. Nevertheless this influence confers great mental insight, though there is often some kind of split in connection with planets placed in this sign. Planets here manifest considerable versatility and mental skills in regard to all forms of communication.

The greatest challenges come for you when communication problems arise. Often an important break with a brother, sister or close friend can inaugurate a complete mental revaluation. In your essential search for meaning you can feel a bond to two very different schools of thought, or you can have two mentors with quite different ideas. Variety and polarity is the stuff of life for you, and you feel distinctly uncomfortable if you are asked to identify yourself with one single direction or opinion. Tension can arise in partnership matters because of your changeability and seeming inconstancy. Often it is enough for you to entertain fleeting ideas as a kind of mental gymnastics. Thus frustration arises in others because you don’t always act on your ideas. Nevertheless you are fun to be with; you rarely take yourself too seriously, and are always willing to adapt to change.

Symbol: Twins
Colour: Yellow
Metal: Mercury
Gem: Agate

Today’s Horoscope for Leo:

Keep your cool and play things out more conservatively than you usually do, today.

Your retirement plan or other investments need some attention, though it’s nothing that should cause you to lose sleep. If you’re still trying to get a nest egg built, now is the time to focus on it!

Daily Extended:
You have a great insight into major events going on right now, and a lot of people would love to know what you know! Sitting in the catbird’s seat gives you a great feeling, and you are finally coming to a place where you can truly value your position in life. Resist the temptation to lord your power over other people who are at disadvantage — you don’t want to burn any bridges. Keep your cool and play this out more conservatively than you probably want to.

Daily Flirt:
You have to step in and figure out what to do about the financial situation. It’s a good time to get a lower credit card rate, save bucks on utilities or just find a way to bring in extra cash.

Daily Couples:
Today finds you feeling unusually introverted, and the only person you want to be around is your sweetheart. Make plans to spend the evening enjoying some quiet time together.

Daily Singles:
To keep the momentum going with someone special you have to be willing to take action at a moment’s notice — whether it be a romantic stroll through the park or a last minute party invitation. Be ready for anything.

Career & Finance:
Being impulsive hasn’t gotten you far. It’s time to slow down and take a breath. In this case, that means taking the time to review your plans. Then sticking with them.

“The Magician”

The Magician

Oooh… this is my second favorite card in the entire deck, second only to “The High Priestess”.

In short, this card says matter of factly that anything that’s desired can be manifested right now, as if by magick, because all the tools needed to manifest these desires are laid out on the table at your disposal. All four suits are present… the wands, -awareness – or the ability to conceive creative new ideas and insights; the cups, signaling the ability to develop solid plans based on healthy feelings or balanced emotions; the swords, which indicate the ability and desire to take the action needed to follow through with the plans and carry the inspiration to fruition; and the pentacles, haralding the ability to see the experience through to the end and “bring home the prize”.

This card reflects self-empowerment, the realization that YOU (the quarrent) can create the life and circumstance you want through conscious awareness, careful planning, earnest action (as well as willingness to transform), and tenacity. It indicates the wisdom that what is needed does not come from an outside source, but is generated from inner power, vizualization, and conscious choice.

The symbol above the magician’s head in this image is representative of the yin/yang of life, the positive and negative, the light and the dark.  The magician is able to harness the whole of life – all of its parts – and turn negative situations into positive experiences.  Life hands ya lemons? The magician turns those to lemonade (oh, how cliche’, Wendi! – yet true).

However, because there is conscious awareness, careful planning, earnest action, and tenacity on the part of the quarrent (the person who drew the card, which, in this case, is me), the Universe rewards those qualities with a bit of Umph in bringing it all together (see the sceptor in the magician’s hand?). There’s magick in the air…

And so here, I remind myself of my own quote: “Believe good things; what you believe becomes!”

Let’s reference the other sources for good measure:

From LearnTarot.com:

taking action
doing what needs to be done
realizing your potential
making what’s possible real
practicing what you preach
carrying out plans
producing magical results
using your talents

acting consciously
knowing what you are doing and why
acknowledging your motivations
understanding your intentions
examining the known situation

having singleness of purpose
being totally committed
applying the force of your will
feeling centered
setting aside distractions
focusing on a goal

experiencing power
making a strong impact
having vitality
creating miracles
becoming energized
feeling vigorous
being creative

The Magician is the archetype of the active, masculine principle – the ultimate achiever. He symbolizes the power to tap universal forces and use them for creative purposes. Note his stance in the picture. He acts as a lightening rod – one arm extended up into the Divine for inspiration, the other pointing toward Earth to ground this potent energy. His abilities appear magical at times because his will helps him achieve what seem to be miracles.

What makes the Magician so powerful? First, he is not afraid to act. He believes in himself and is willing to put that belief on the line. He also knows what he intends to do and why. He doesn’t hesitate because he understands his situation exactly. The Magician can focus with single-minded determination. As long as he remembers the divine source of his power, the Magician remains the perfect conduit for miracles.

In a reading, the Magician implies that the primal forces of creativity are yours if you can claim your power and act with awareness and concentration. This card is a signal to act and act now, provided you understand exactly what you want and are committed to getting it.

And from Aeclectic Tarot:

Basic Card Symbols

Red & White coloring, the lemniscate (infinity symbol), a small wand, a table displaying a chalice, a pentacle, a staff (wand) and a sword.

Basic Tarot Story

Traveling on his way, the Fool first encounters a Magician. Skillful, self-confident, a powerful magus with the infinite as a halo floating above his head, the Magician mesmerizes the Fool. When asked, the Fool gives over his bundled pack and stick to the Magician. Raising his wand to heaven, pointing his finger to Earth, the Magician calls on all powers; magically, the cloth of the pack unfolds upon the table, revealing its contents. And to the Fool’s eyes it is as if the Magician has created the future with a word. All the possibilities are laid out, all the directions he can take. The cool, airy Sword of intellect and communication, the fiery Wand of spirituality and ambition, the overflowing Chalice of Love and emotions, the solid Pentacle of work, possessions and body. With these tools, the Fool can create anything, make anything of his life. But here’s the question, did the Magician create the tools, or were they already in the pack? Only the Magician knows – and on this mystery, our eloquent mage refuses to say a word.

Basic Tarot Meaning

At #1, the Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things just-so by speaking them aloud (“And God said ‘Let there be Light!’ and there was Light”). Reflecting this is the fact that the Magician is represented by Mercury. He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth talker, a salesman. Also clever with the slight of hand (Mercury *was* the god of thieves!) and a medicine man – either a real doctor or someone trying to sell you snake oil. The 4 suits laid out before him remind us of the 4 aces, which in the Tarot symbolize the raw, undeveloped, undirected power of each suit. When the Magician appears, he reveals these to you. The reader might well interpret this card as telling the querent that they will be given a vision, an idea, a magical, mental image of whatever it is they most want: the solution to a problem, an ambitious career, a love life, a job.

Thirteen’s Observations

If any card in the Tarot is the Tarot, it is the Magician. He’s one of the most recognizable cards, always a favorite. He’s also the only card in the major arcana that refers to the minors with the “trumps” displayed upon his table. If the reader believes the Magician stands for the Querent, then the Querent either is, or is currently finding himself eloquent and charismatic at this time. Both verbally and in writing, he is clever, witty, inventive and persuasive. People listen and agree with him. He also has an interest in science. He might be, in fact, a doctor or scientist or inventor.

Standing for someone other than the querent, the Magician could be a skillful doctor, scientist, inventor lecturer, salesman, or con-man. It’s important to remember that the Magician can as easily be clever as skilful, a trickster as well as a magician. This is someone with a magnetic personality, someone who can convince people of almost anything. For better or worse, his words are magic.

Most importantly, the Magician card stands for the “reveal” – as in a magic trick. The handkerchief is draped over an empty box, the Magician waves his wand, *presto!*–now there is a dove in the box. The Magician card does the same for the Querent–only what it reveals is not birds or rabbits but NEW ideas. Emphasis on NEW. When the Magician card appears, the Querent is likely to say: “Now there’s an idea! Why didn’t I think of that before?” Truth is, the Querent had that idea in his head all along. The Magician merely revealed it to him. But what will the Querent do with this idea? That’s a question for the next card….

1st quarter waxing in Leo, void-of-course at 10:40 a.m. US Central, enters Virgo at 9:01 p.m.

Waxing Moon: Waxing, from New Moon to Full Moon, is the ideal time to do magic to draw things to you.

Moon in Leo: Draws emphasis to the self, to central ideas or institutions, away from connections with others and emotional needs.

Void-of-Course: Just before the Moon enters a new sign, it will make one final aspect (angular relationship) to another planet. Between that last aspect and the entrance of the Moon into the next sign, it is said to be void-of-course. Activities begin when the Moon is void-of-course rarely come to fruition, or they turn out very differently than planned. (NOTE: This is why I waited until the moon’s position shifted before contacting the lender on my house!)

Moon in Virgo: Favors accomplishment of details and commands from higher up. Focus on health, hygiene, and daily schedules.

Geminis enjoy a variety of interests. They are usually very curious and open minded. Gemini likes different people, places, things and experiences. This makes them very versatile people. Gemini likes the smorgasbord of life. A little of this, a little of that. They want to try and taste it all. Can you see why they’ve earned the reputation for being so changeable? This not to say that a Gemini will never master anything. They will. But, the rest of us can only wonder how they find the time to get their fingers into so many different pies. It’s because Gemini has a low loyalty quotient for anything they’ve already tried. If they took everything to great depth, this would narrow the playing field too much.

As an Air sign Gemini is not cut out for the heavy side of life. Others view this trait as too fickle; their worst trait. Gemini is also capable of more than one so-called “loyalty”.
Gemini is expressive and clever. Gemini loves to share any new found knowledge. Gemini can become easily bored if things become too routine. They get restless if there is nothing new to stimulate their mind. If a project is seen as too boring they have hard time disciplining themselves to finish it. They thrive on change and they need lots of mental cookies to chew on.

Gemini energy can be likened to that of a chameleon in some respects. They can change colors depending on what the occasion calls for. A neat talent, really. Their wide variety of experiences allows them to be able to identify with several different viewpoints. They actually understand the Buddhist because they tried meditation once. They can really relate to the Hindu because they didn’t eat meat for a whole week. See how this works? This is the famous Gemini dual nature playing itself out. Gemini teaches us to open our minds and explore the world around us-ever searching for new knowledge and experiences.

Pure Gemini energy is….
* changeable
* capable of more than one loyalty
* fickle
* curious about life
* wants to learn a little about everything
* open-minded
* very communicative
* easily bored
* a mental approach
* a youthful attitude

Today’s Horoscope for Leo:

You might find yourself in an introverted mood — listen to your inner thoughts.

You’ve reached a new height — though can see new peaks and challenges ahead, so life shouldn’t get too boring. It may be a good time to take a rest and enjoy the view while waiting for others to catch up.

Daily Extended:
Today you might find yourself in an introverted mood as the day gets started — you won’t be too interested in connecting with other people until later on in the day when you’re feeling more confident. You’ve got to ask yourself what you want out of one of your newer relationships, and in order to find the answer, you need to think. No one else can tell you what you want — asking people what they think about your situation will only confuse you, so don’t bother. (Damn if that doesn’t hit the nail right on the head!!)

Daily Flirt:
Your gigantic heart is beating like a kick drum today, and while it might be distracting for a bit, you can tell that it’s a beacon to all the right people. Help those who can’t help themselves!

Daily Couples:
The love you feel for your sweetie is almost overwhelming at times, and you feel like making a grand gesture to express how you feel. Have fun, and remember it’s the feeling behind it, not the money you spend.

Daily Singles:
Do you have dating strategy or are you simply winging it? Even though it’s fun to not know what might happen next, you should at least have a few backup plans just in case.

Career & Finance:
You don’t call yourself lion-hearted for nothing. Your view of yourself as courageous can be overblown at times, but today it’s really valid. Flexing your muscles will bring plenty of glory.

“The magick moving through art is the ability to visualize without seeing, listen without hearing, speak without talking, and feel without touching.” ~Wendi Friend~

I over-slept today. I awoke frantic and frazzled due to bad dreams and thick stress. My eldest child, Atlas, was already gone off to school. The younger two decided that I should be left to sleep, so they played quietly together in the loft after having gotten dressed and made their beds. I awoke feeling the need to crawl inside myself; but in a healthy way. I felt like my heart was trying to tell me something. I wanted to sit still and listen. I wanted to silently remember my dreams and explore my thoughts.

Brewing my first pot of coffee for the day, I wrote down that I was hungry for creativity. Creativity, for me, is medicine – whether I’m creating with words on paper, crafting with supplies, or playing with notes of a new song. When my hands are busy, anticipation and expectation preoccupied with art, I can hear myself better. I can see the journey ahead a little more clearly. I can breathe a little more deeply. I was ready to heal. I was hungry for creativity.

Unfortunately, growth was not the only thing I was feeling this morning. The sign on my heart must have been flashing, “No Vacancy,” because all the space within it was consumed with a mixture of hope, need, want, and guilt. I know why I’m in this position. I know that stress backed me into a corner. I know that responsibility challenged time to a race and won. I found myself staying up late nights, waking early in the morning, and skipping meals in between because I couldn’t find the time to do all that needed done in the accomplishing of my goals. I felt guilty because the kids wanted to spend time with me. But, then, so did I.

That’s when I remembered this quote and wrote it down on paper again at that moment: The magick moving through art is the ability to visualize without seeing, listen without hearing, speak without talking and feel without touching. I wrote it down the first time in a journal/coloring book I’d received as a gift. I used a pink gel pen, then – and must have re-read the statement a hundred times while my left hand colored the picture to the left.

As I re-wrote the phrase this morning, seven year old Stinkerbelle knocked on my door, wanting to know if she and Rhythm could go play outside. Turning in my office chair, I smiled, saying, “Ya know what? No. Why don’t you go get your brother and the two of you can hang out in here with me for a while.” Stinkerbelle was thrilled to no end, as was her brother. I had no idea that hanging out in my office would be such a treat for them. When they were both in here, I explained that I’d like them to do something creative with this part of the morning, then they could go outside and play. Stinkerbelle immediately wanted to put to use the weaving project she got for her birthday. Rhythm had been wanting to play with my magnetic poetry book. He watched me do an exercise the other day, thought it was neat, and had been wanting to try one of his own. He picked out five words from my bag of magnetic poetry pieces while Stinkerbelle began stretching little loops of elastic to hook and weave on the plastic base. While the two of them nestled into their creative acts, I nestled into mine.

While Rhythm wrote his own thoughts of the day and Stinkerbelle wove a pot holder, I allowed the pen to move across paper with my own round of magnetic poetry. I withdrew five words from the plastic bag and wrote them down:

1. wind 2.away 3.sister 4.summer 5. morning

Morning flew quickly by today.
Summer heat taunts, though it’s only spring.
Winter has finally melted away,
making room for the great sun king.

Dreaming of a garden of flowers
I seek nature’s comforting glow.
Sister wind has exhausted her powers
when March currents did forcefully flow.

As I stand in these seasons changing,
I am one with light and sound.
My mind does it’s mystic rearranging
while my feet connect to the ground.

So I thank the entity Mother Earth
for destruction, obstacles and strife…
for death only makes room for birth
and a new opportunity for life.

Winds blow away negativity
cold freezes ugly thoughts
heat melts snow, warming creativity
and I find what I have sought….

my own inner garden of peace.

While we were working, I noticed how tranquil we all were. Rhythm and Stinkerbelle both worked with pleasant grins stretched across their faces, and I realized I was doing the same. We were able to be together, and yet apart, all at the same time. We were all doing the same thing, but differently. We were all being creative and exploring ourselves. This satisfied all of our needs. Their wanting to be with me didn’t mean that I couldn’t still do what I needed to do. I learned that they just like to be in my presence and sharing in my love of art.

Moon Magick

Intro: This was written back in June of 2001 when I was just beginning to discover the world of magick, lunar influences, and the enchantments life had to offer. Not long after this piece was written, I sold everything I owned, loaded the kids and pets into a rental van, and set out on a journey to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I’d discover true independence for the first time in my life. In Tulsa, I was able to study, explore, practice magick without anyone looking over my shoulder, ridiculing, or condemning my processes. Tulsa is where I lost myself and found myself simultaneously. This poem is sort of like the prelude to magickal change in my life.

“Moon Magick”
Written by:

Magick –
the feeling of wonder and awe,
the feeling that you can’t begin to believe
what your eyes already know they saw.

The moon was lit on the far right side,
three quarters lost in night’s cloak of black
but from that quarter of lit moon I had seen,
I knew there was no lack

of light or love or peace or hope….
despite the fears of current circumstance.
In that sliver of lunar light,
I felt, again, that there might be a chance

that magick isn’t mythical,
or illusions performed by the slight of hand
that some wonderful things actually do occur
when walking through a mystic land.

So I closed my eyes and imagined a ladder
leading directly to the moon
I started climbing, one foot at a time
knowing I’d get there soon.

There she was in her glory
all lit up and looking fine
and said, “I’ve been in your house several times.
It’s nice to have you in mine.”

I sat right there on her curled up edge
with my feet dangling off the side…
quite literally, then, on top of the word!
It was such a wild ride!

Things look a little different
from that position in the sky
and I sat there silently thinking
while the stars went twinkling by.

I thought about my children.
I thought about my parents.
I thought about how some things are learned
and some are seemingly inherent.

I thought about all the pain I’ve found
buried deep inside.
I thought about the loss in my heart,
thinking of friends, family, lovers who’ve died.

I thought about the yesterdays,
I thought about the tomorrows
I thought about my happiest times
and thought about my sorrows.

I wondered about amazing things
and simple things, and things far fetched
I pondered over all that has happened
and worried over what might happen next.

Then, I let it all go.

I slid right down in the moon’s cool slope
absorbing what I could of the night,
drinking in the lunar glow
that made everything all right.

I slept there in her cradle,
rocked by her soothing sway,
knowing that she’d be out of reach
when night turned into day.

For the moment, the moon was my moon.
It belonged to only me
and in that mystical moment of moon magick
my spirit was set free.

“We do not know, in most cases, how far social failure and success are due to heredity, and how far to environment. But environment is the easier of the two to improve.” ~J.B.S. Haldane~

Do you ever feel displaced in your environment, off balance in an unexplainable way? Having bad dreams? Keep finding yourself at the fridge even when you’re not hungry? Do you feel suffocated in certain rooms of your home or office? Many unexplainable feelings may be identified or rectified by changing your environment by way of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui: a philosophy which, through its practice, creates a balanced environment. Feng Shui may improve areas such as finances, health and career. It may also increase awareness of true self, making obstacles less difficult to overcome; creating a harmonious, peaceful existence by using intuition and common sense to maintain and restore the natural balance of life.

Traditionally practiced in the far east, Feng Shui was originally used to prognosticate placement of graves or to map a location for a home or communal area . These same philosophies are now used for the interior design of the home, office and garden. The aim of Feng Shui is to restore full equanimity to the natural order through sensitivity and awareness of life’s natural functions.

Nature has a balance and has had since before humankind invaded the planet. The concepts of Yin and Yang are symbolized by the sun and the moon. They are two opposite energies operative in the universe, said to be inclusive of each other. This exchange of negative and positive which keeps the world in rotation creates Qi, the life giving force of the universe.

Qi compares to the wind, a natural energy source constantly flowing all around us. Everything is alive with the energy of Qi. Qi is also like water, an energy source that can be redirected. It is a cycle that if disconnected will affect everything else that depends on the continuance of this natural flow of energy. For example, the Colorado river was diverted with the building of Hoover Dam, which changed the entire direction of the flow of the river, which then affected plant and animal life along both paths, the natural path of the river and the diverted path. Feng Shui translates to “wind-water.”

Feng Shui methods are structured on Qi and the belief of the importance of the five Elements; water, wood, fire, earth and metal which are considered the building blocks of life.

Feng Shui can be used to locate an area and direction in which to build a home or office based on the flow of energy or obstructions of energy in the area. Feng Shui can be applied to interior design in which colors and placement of objects affect the way a person behaves inside their home. For example, the color blue is representative of the element water. Having too much blue in one room can make the occupant feel like they are drowning. Adding yellow, the earth sign; symbol of cheer, is a simple remedy to restore balance.

Crystals are used in Feng Shui and are believed to have properties that protect and break up concentrations of blocked energy. Color and or fabric is applied to symbolize the five elements and enhance certain traits such as strength, wealth and creativity. Bamboo flutes are also used frequently as are mirrors, often placed in strategic order to reflect negative energy from windows with obstacles, such as trees, in their view. Having an obstacle in view in the home is said to manifest by way of obstacles in the life. Feng Shui can also be applied in the garden by choosing specific colors and species of plant varieties and the right locations in which to plant them.

If what the spirit seeks is an existence which is peaceful, harmonious, productive, balanced and beneficial not only to the self, but the environment, consideration should be given to changing your environment by way of Feng Shui.
