Today’s Fairy Oracle: Visualization (opening the psychic eye)
Today’s Animal Medicine Card: Lizard (dreaming)

Wednesday:
Governed by Mercury: study, travel, divination, wisdom

The Moon:
3rd Quarter Waning in Aries; void of course @ 5:26 p.m., enters Taurus @ 7:56 p.m. (US CENTRAL)

Waning Moon: From Full Moon to New Moon is a time for study, meditation, and magical work designed to banish harmful energies.

Moon in Aries: Good for starting things. Things occur rapidly, but quickly pass. People tend to be argumentative and assertive.

Moon Void of Course: Just before the Moon enters a new sign, it will make one final aspect (angular relationship) to another planet. Between that last aspect and the entrance of the Moon into the next sign, it is said to be void-of-course. Activities begun when the Moon is void-of-course rearely come to fruition, or they turn out very differently than planned.

Moon in Taurus: Things begun now last longest, tend to increase in value, and become hard to change. Brings out an appreciation for beauty and sensory experience.

The Sun:
Virgo, The Virgin

The Principle of Discernment and Boundaries

Element-Earth
Quality-Mutable
Symbol-The Virgin
Sun Sign Dates-August 24 to September 23
Planetary Ruler-Mercury
Natural Zodiac Affinity-Sixth House

Virgo has a mission. The mission of Virgo is to separate what is useful from that which is not useful. This is called discernment. This is a sign that needs to feel a sense of usefulness and purpose. Someone needs to create order from chaos. They’ve earned a reputation for being too critical. Don’t take their criticism personally. Everyone and everything is subject to the same scrutiny. Those who are comfortable in chaos will not last long around Virgo. Their perfectionist drive comes from their innermost being. They may seem picky and uptight to other people but the reason why Virgo can get so uptight is because theirs is a never-ending job. There is always work to be done and so much of it is not fully appreciated by other people. Remember, Virgo has a large contribution to make to the world. Do you want your dentist to be a slob? Do you want to sleep on unchanged sheets in a hotel room? Do you care if the cook washes his hands? Virgo has taken on the job of worry and concern over the everyday duties that actually make life liveable in so many unseen ways. Virgo is the civilizing effect on mankind.

Virgo is into reality. They don’t dream about what is possible- they do it. If the five senses cannot detect it, then what use is that? Virgo has a talent for logical analysis. Virgo and Gemini are both ruled by Mercury. Virgo sorts through the Gemini function which takes in everything. It sorts through it and files away that which may be used later if necessary then tosses out that which has no use. Pure Virgo energy always knows where the scissors are. A place for everything and everything in it’s place. If you won’t do it, then they will. Virgo likes to help. It’s a service-oriented sign.

Thank a Virgo today for being humble enough to do what needs to be done. For taking the time to fuss over the small details which enhance the quality of life in so many practical ways.

Pure Virgo energy is….
* an instinctive talent for analyzing things in a logical manner
* creating order from chaos
* leans towards worry and concern
* seeking perfection
* geared towards getting the job done
* wants to feel useful
* fact oriented-leans towards skepticism until proven
* usually feels that “cleanliness is next to godliness.”
* a lot of mental anxiety over outcomes
* detail oriented
* learning to draw boundaries and to say, “no”
* the craftsman/craftswoman

*Harvest Day

Today’s Dreamscapes: Interior Design
Today’s Tarot Card: Nine of Swords
Today’s Fairy Oracle: Laughter
Possible Personal Influence: Alignment

The Moon:
3rd Quarter Waning in Aries

Waning Moon: Waning moon is when the moon appears to be shrinking in the sky, the last two weeks of the moon’s twenty-eight day cycle. Each night the light of the moon gets smaller and smaller until ultimately, the moon appears invisible and is completely out of sight. During this two weeks, it’s best for doing magickal workings to rid yourself of things, to cast away negative energies, or to break habits. If you want to keep your nails short, trim them during waning moon. Want to slow the growth of your hair? Cut it during waning moon. Want to end a certain relationship? Waning moon is best. Quit smoking? Lose weight? Waning moon lends its energies to these types of magickal workings.

Moon in Aries: You may be inclined to speak your mind more openly and aggressively, but expect others to do the same, and don’t be surprised if opinions conflict and tempers rise. Great ideas may spark, but the flames are quickly exhausted (no long burning embers here!), so jot the ideas down while they’re free-flowing, and manifest them later when the moon/sign combination is more in favor of long term results. Harness the spontaneous energy brought by the moon’s visit with Aries, but resist the tendency to be impulsive or headstrong. Emotions may run strong, but reason is required, so work at maintaining balance between heart and mind, without letting them go to war with one another.

The Sun:

Leo, The Lion
(See Yesterday’s post for Leo Influences)

Today’s Horoscope for Leo:

Quickie
Someone from a drastically different background will change one of your opinions.

Overview
You’re all about fun today, even if you’re behind a desk or dealing with difficult children. Somehow, your good energy shines through and you let people see how great life can be!

Daily Extended
You’ll meet up with someone from a drastically different background today, and they will have something serious to say that you should pay attention to, even if no one else wants to. This is a good learning experience for you, and when they share their ideas or thoughts with you, they are showing you that they trust you. You should respect that trust and return it by opening your mind and reserving judgment. They just might change one of your longest-held opinions.

Daily Flirt:
Your good mood is impossible to kill today, and you should find yourself smiling and humming no matter where you are or what’s going on around you. Encourage others to follow your lead!

Daily Couples:
One of your long-held beliefs may be challenged by your partner today. Instead of reacting negatively, hear them out. If you feel the point they’re making is a valid one, consider adapting your own opinion.

Daily Singles:
Today you might meet someone who changes your opinion about what’s considered romantic. Open your mind to the possibility that chivalry and tender gestures are not a thing of the past. The actions might be impractical but they sure are amorous.

Career & Finance
Don’t have any financial dealings until you’re sure. Listening to instinct will only elucidate so much. If you want things to really be clear, there’s no substitute for good, old-fashioned research.

The Sun:

Leo, The Lion (My time to shine!)

The Sun Rules the Sign of Leo

  • On the downside:  You may have a heavy ego, and you can be arrogant, vain, and extravagant.
  • Your good qualities include:  A strong vitality, honorable, creative, generous, dignified.
  • Developing your own self identity and mode of creative energy expression will be your ongoing life’s work.

Leo has a great deal of self confidence but they also have a great fear of being ridiculed and made to feel disgraced. While Leo is very affectionate there is a tendency to have things their way and may rapidly lose interest if they are challenged too often for the leading role. They will have to learn to discipline themselves against their overall enthusiasm for living life to the fullest, which is to say, dangerously on the edge. The creative urge in Leos should never be stifled as to do so a good deal of potential will be wasted.

Leos are found as painters, actors, or sculptors; but not all Leos are in the public arts, no, rather they can be found in the throes of creation doing their projects on the kitchen table. They have an infectious vitality that lights up their lives like an inner sun and illuminates not only their lives, but the lives of those around them. Lack of fulfillment in life, professionally or personally, can destroy these bright and shinning people and cloud their personalities.Leos need control in their lives to be really satisfied so organization is absolutely essential to their peace of mind.

A leo should cultivate a flexible mind as they do not always ‘know best’.

Only when this trait is cultivated can the characteristic Leonine warmth, generosity, and desire to really understand others be fully indulged.

The lions love and adore children as they bring out the inner child. Leos are surprisingly sensitive and easily hurt, but they do have a tendency to dominate and this should never be underestimated. It is always meant well as they only want to bring out the best in the people they care about, or work with. They also tend toward impatience and they should make curbing these traits a lifelong objective. Born leaders, they can take command of a situation in any emergency and see it through to its completion. The enthusiams they acquired in childhood will generally last a lifetime and may even dictate the career one would choose.

They can be too status conscious, causing themselves much anguish when, or if, they cannot keep up with others in their immediate circle. They can also be quite overbearing and vain when they feel they are being challenged. On the other hand, the lions make great lovers and parents, giving more to a relationship than most of the other signs. They are good honorable persons and good providers.

Today’s Horoscope for Leo:

Quickie:
Everyone is in the mood to compromise, and one of your friends has a great idea.

Overview:
Someone new breezes into your life today and might give you reason to rethink some deeply held opinion. It’s a good time to open up to your friends and maybe take a new direction in life.

Daily Extended:
You and your friends are a little bit out of synch with each other, but not to worry — this dissonance might create more fun than frustration. Everyone is in the mood to compromise, and one of your friends is going to come up with a great idea. They will help make things better than they’ve ever been! It’s going to be one of those days when you fully realize how lucky you are to have such fantastic people in your life. Show them how much you care.

Daily Flirt:
You feel pretty settled in at least one area of your life — but someone comes along today who spins you around one more time. It shouldn’t be a bad thing, because you’re sure to find the new way a little better.

Daily Couples:
Whatever you do with your honey today, you’re bound to have a good time. The two of you can find a way to make even laundry night seem fun. As long as you’re together, the activity is secondary.

Daily Singles:
Your talent to have a good time out of anything makes you the go-to person when people are dying of boredom. Use this to your advantage to wow someone new. Keep the positive vibes going and encourage others to laugh in the face of ennui.

Career & Finance:
All that glitters is not gold. You’ve already learned that lesson. But just how that manifests itself is always a bit tricky. It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s just glittering. Trust your instinct.

As I was doing the Daily Dose this morning, I realized that I’m about to encounter a unique alignment – everything will be as it was on the day I was born.  The Sun will be in Leo, the year according to Chinese astrology is the year of the rat, and the moon will be in Aries – everything aligned exactly as it was on the day of my birth.

2008 is the year of the rat.  As of today, the Sun shifted into Leo.  As of 3:22 a.m. tomorrow morning (tonight), the moon shifts into Aries (my Moon sign), where it will stay for the remainder of Wednesday, all of Thursday, until 6:30 a.m. Friday.

If I’m not mistaken, the Chinese zodiac sign only comes about once every twelve years… since I’m about to turn 36, this would be only my third alignment with all the elements in place – Leo, Rat, and Aries, and I won’t experience it again until I’m turning 48.

I wonder if this has anything to do with my current “shift”, introspective tendencies, and sense of transformation.

Well, where was I twelve years ago? 1996. Interestingly enough, I got married that year (Year of the rat is supposed to be a good time for marriage, even though I was divorced by 2001).  I also discovered that year that I had cervical cancer and would engage in a two year battle for my life.  I had surgery every three months for the following two years, which ultimately led to a hysterectomy when I was 25 – April of 1998. It was a time of MAJOR transformation, soul searching, and trying to find and define the value of my own life and my purpose for living.  The daily threat of death has that effect.

So if I’m right in thinking that this alignment has something to do with my current emotional/mental/spiritual state, then all I can do is hope that this time, the cycle takes it a bit easier on me!

Just a thought.

When I first began this blog and was focusing on the “Know Thyself” category, one of my first posts was Seeing the Signs: The Cat and the Rat. This post provided an astrological profile for my Leo birth sign, as well as that of Chinese Astrology as I was born in the Year of the Rat (1972).  But tonight, I remembered an old blog, logged in to it, found another “Know Thyself” category that included my Moon Sign.

While my sun sign is Leo and I was born in the Year of the Rat, my moon sign is Aries. The following entry is taken from the book “Moon Signs” by Sasha Fenton and Jonathan Dee.

Moon in Aries

You are a quick thinker, talker and large-scale planner, but you may need help with specific details. Lunar Ariens are often starters rather than runners, so you may be happier as an executive rather than as an ordinary worker. You may be a tough go-getter, but your confidence can evaporate quickly and you need the support and admiration of others.

Women with this Moon placement may value a career highly. You can be enthusiastic, headstrong and freedom-loving, unable to accept restrictions or unnecessary discipline. Your love life may be stormy, either because you are changeable and easily bored or because you are unwilling to compromise. However, you are probably honest and don’t try to manipulate others.

Moon in Aries people can be deft and dextrous, so your excellent co-ordination could make you successful at many sports.

The Moon is a ‘watery’ planet, and when it is in a fire sign emotions can be expressed quickly and easily. Moon Ariens can therefore display a hot temper, although you usually cool down quickly and rarely sulk. It may be hard to get you to listen to others, as you tend to see everything from your own point of view, concentrating on your own emotional needs rather than those of others.

One problem that seems to afflict those with the Moon in Aries is that of having a domineering or difficult parent, and the years from adolescence to independence are often characterized by shouting matches.
